Acne Treatment Program FAQ

Below is an extensive list of commonly asked questions and my answers. Please do take the time to check out any relevant questions and answers that may pertain to you. This will give you a much clearer idea of what the program involves and whether or not the program will be a good fit for you.

If you have any additional questions or are unclear about anything,  please contact me and I'll be happy to answer your questions and provide clarity!

How long will it take for my skin to clear? Expand

On average, it will take 6 to 8 treatments over a 3 to 4 month period of time along with your following the home care program during that period to get your skin clear. Some may clear even more quickly, and others with resistant forms of acne may take a bit longer, but this is the average for most guests.

Do I have to use the Face Reality home care products? Expand

Yes, to qualify for this program, you must use the Face Reality system at home. Your customized home care routine is critical to the clearing of your skin. To effectively clear your skin of acne and discoloration, we must work together with a controlled set of products and clear directions on how to use them. I can't coach you through the use of any other system, and combining other products can be detrimental to your results.

How much do the Face Reality products cost? Expand

On average, you can expect to spend around $160 on your initial round of products (6-7 items). This is a full and comprehensive, customized product regimen. You'll be taught how to use your products, how often to use them, and how much to use!

What does the Acne Clearing Program Cost? Expand

Below is the pricing structure for the Acne Clearing Program. If you know that you're serious and ready to get clear skin, the Consultation + Treatment option is the best way to begin.

-Consultation with Treatment - $115 (best option for those who are serious and ready to get started) [Price change effective 5/30/21 - $145]

-Consultation only - $69 [Price change effective 5/30/21 - $99]

-Follow-Up Treatment - $75

-Package of 3 Follow-Up Treatments - $195

-Average cost of complete home care regimen (6 to 7 products) - $160

-Average first visit total (includes consultation, program materials, initial treatment, and homecare regimen) - $305. This price may go slightly up or down based on strength and number of homecare products.

I am using prescription medication for Acne, can I use this program? Expand

This program is intended to work without the use of prescription medications for acne clearing. If you are currently using prescription topical treatments or Accutane, you'll need to be done with those medications before we can work together with this program.

I am a parent, how old must my child be to start this program? Expand

Teens and preteens who are unable to drive to their own appointments require pre-authorization.

I am the parent of a driving-age teenager. Do I need to be present for appointments? Expand

Though you do not have to be present, if your child is under the age of 18, I will need to email you a waiver to sign (in advance of appointment) and return to me which authorizes me to give skin care services to your child in your absence.

I am struggling with adult acne, can I use this program? Expand

Yes! This is the beauty of the Acne Clearing Program and Face Reality product system. The treatments and home care products are customized for your skin type, condition, and the specific type of acne you're struggling with. This program is optimized for people of all ages.

Will I have to change my diet? Expand

Although this is not a dietary program, we will go over certain foods that may be contributing to the severity of your breakouts. You'll be provided a simple list of the key foods (these aren't always what you may think!) that can be problematic for acne prone skin so you can make informed decisions regarding your dietary choices.

Will I need to take supplements? Expand

Depending on the type of acne you have, you may benefit from some very streamlined supplementation. Don't worry, you'll NEVER be given a list of 100 supplements you need to buy or take! Ever! There are 3 key supplements I often recommend, and you may not need all 3. Further, these supplements are affordable and readily available - nothing strange or difficult to find.

Do you sell supplements? Expand

No, however, I will provide you with all the details to look for when selecting supplements for your skin.

Do I have to buy special makeup? Expand

That depends. I'll be providing you with some important details on what ingredients to avoid in your cosmetic products. You'll need to play detective and compare your cosmetics with the list I provide you. Should any of these ingredients be in your makeup, you'll need to begin using makeup that is free from the pore clogging ingredients I teach you about. I do not market makeup, but with the list and information I provide you, you'll be able to make great choices when you're shopping!

You mention that all acne is not the same, can you explain this? Expand

Absolutely! There are different types of acne as well as varying degrees of severity. It is extremely important that your skin therapist knows these differences.

Inflamed acne, non-inflamed acne, and combination acne must all be managed differently. Additionally, the severity of these conditions also determines what products you'll need, and what steps will need to be taken to ensure your skin is properly hydrated and calmed during the clearing process.

Will I have any new breakouts during the process? Expand

When you see a blemish at the skin's surface, that blemish has often been forming for 30-90 days. As your skin begins to clear, you may experience some breakouts. This is the process of your skin clearing, purifying, and balancing. Blemishes that appear during your clearing process were likely forming before you began the program and must be cleared from your skin. Following the program exactly as I teach you will ensure we keep new breakouts to a minimum and existing blemishes clear more quickly.

Will my skin become dry or irritated? Expand

Some dryness should be expected along your journey to clear skin. However, one of the key reasons I love this program is that, should your skin become excessively dry or irritated, you and I will have contingency plans in place! When you begin the program, I'll be providing you with all the information you need to know exactly what to do should you hit any bumps in the road.

What happens during a treatment? Expand

During your treatment sessions, you'll receive either an enzyme treatment or (more often) a light skin peel. Don't worry! These peels are absolutely fabulous at creating positive changes in your skin while not leaving you red, irritated, or with tons of peeling skin.

Most people will either experience a little mild flakiness in isolated areas in the days following a treatment, and many will experience no noticeable flaking at all.

After your enzyme or light skin peel, I'll perform professional extractions. These extractions help to purge material from your skin and expedite the clearing process. I am not aggressive with extractions (overly aggressive extractions damage skin tissue) and do my best to make the process as comfortable as possible. As you continue to use your recommended home care products, and receive your professional acne treatments, extractions will become easier and easier as the material in your skin breaks up and exits your pores more easily.

During your bi-monthly visits, we'll also go over any challenges you're experiencing while on the program and celebrate your victories, then I'll make necessary adjustments to your acne-clearing home care regimen and provide you with a handout to follow for the next two weeks. We will repeat this process during each of your professional acne treatment sessions.

Your location is too far for me to drive to, do you take distance clients? Expand

I am happy to work with clients at-a-distance. Please note that in most cases, it will take your skin considerably longer to clear due to not receiving the professional treatments. It can still be done, but will require great commitment and patience on your end.

I only accept a limited number of distance clients at any given time, so if you are interested in becoming a distance client please contact me to see if any openings are available.

What are home care adjustments? Expand

The most unique aspect of The Acne Clearing Program is that we are always going to be modifying your home care regimen so that we push your skin to clear while balancing any negative side effects.

Every 2 weeks, during your bi-monthly professional treatments, we'll adjust your regimen. This means we'll change how often you use certain products, how long you leave certain products on your skin, and occasionally, we'll adjust which products you're using.

Now, this doesn't mean you'll be buying a whole new set of products every 2 weeks! Absolutely not! This means you're customized product selections will be shifted in how you're using them. When the time comes that you need a higher dose, I'll be teaching you how to incorporate the new strength with your previous one so that you're never wasting product.

Do you accept medical insurance? Expand

No. The Acne Clearing Program at The Lantern Skin Studio is a non-medical approach to clearing skin.

What if I miss an appointment? Expand

If you cannot make one of your bi-monthly appointments, you'll still need to communicate with me via email to have your home care program adjusted.

These bi-monthly regimen adjustments are a key component of your success in getting clear skin. Should you be unable to come in for an appointment, I'll ask you to send me photos of your skin and will have some key questions for you so that I may determine how your regimen should be adjusted.

What is your cancellation policy? Expand

I ask that cancellations be made 24 hours in advance.
Cancellations of less than 24 hours may result in a missed appointment fee of 50% of the scheduled service.

Please be aware that appointments are on a first come, first-served basis. Should you need to cancel, there may not be open appointment slots available for you to reschedule immediately.

How long in advance should I schedule my treatments? Expand

My scheduling system will allow you to schedule up to 60 days in the future. If you have very specific days and times that work with your schedule, I recommend you set up your bi-monthly visits as soon as you begin the program. I generally recommend booking at the very least - 2 weeks in advance.

If you have a relatively set schedule, I can assist you in reserving your appointment slots beyond the 60 days allowed by the online scheduling software.

If I have special events planned, should I still get a treatment? Expand

When you have a special event, you'll want to plan around it accordingly. Your skin will usually be fine after a treatment, but to be on the safe side, I recommend allowing your skin to have a minimum of 3 days recovery time after a session before any special event. Please adjust the planning of your treatments according to any events you may have, but remember that staying on the 2 week schedule as best you can is a big part of your clearing process.

What happens when my skin is clear? Expand

When your skin is happy, healthy, and clear, we'll begin adjusting your regimen into a maintenance routine. This is a very customized process and will be different for each person.

Once clear, you'll not need to come in so frequently, and your product regimen will change to reflect the condition of your skin. We'll still stay in touch to be sure you remain clear, and it'll be important that you continue to incorporate the clear-skin concepts you'll be learning about during your program.

I'm ready! What can I do to ensure my acne clears up? Expand

As you've already learned, we'll be partners in clearing your skin. Successfully clearing your acne will depend on you committing to the program. Here are the key ways you can boost your results and get clear skin:

1. Follow the customized home card guidelines exactly as I teach you.
2. Schedule and keep your bi-monthly Acne Clearing Treatment appointments.
3. Reduce or eliminate foods we find may be triggers for you.
4. Check any topical product you use for body, face, or hair against the ingredient list you're provided in your Clear Kit.
5. Keep stress to a minimum.
6. Communicate with me before adjusting your home care.
7. Commit to this program and this program alone until your skin clears - mixing regimens and multiple product lines will only delay your clearing process.
8. Stay positive! Clearing acne is an exciting process, but we all tend to focus on what's wrong instead of what's right! As your skin clears, focus on how far you've come rather than how far you think you have to go!
