Welcome! If you're looking to learn a little more about The Lantern Skin Studio and the owner, Casey Durrett (that's me), here's the story!
During my career as an esthetician, I’ve worn many hats. From working in clinical skin care and later being an educator in, and manager of, a Paul Mitchell corporate Skin Academy – to working as national educator for a cosmeceutical skin line and becoming a compensated reviewer for the industry’s leader in professional esthetic textbook publishing (Cengage/Milady) – my career came full circle in 2012.
I’d always wanted to own my own skin care business. This was in part because I wanted to be free to spend more of my time one-on-one with guests and less of it managing other people, but another important factor was my desire to have the freedom to choose.
I’ve been blessed with amazing experiences working in the skin care industry, but when employed by someone else – it means an obligation to play by your employer’s rules. This can result in having to work with products that aren’t ideal for your clients, being pushed to sell services you don’t really believe in simply because they are trendy or happen to be the promotional facial treatment of the day/week/month. Then there were the cookie cutter facial treatments: treatments that are written up by product lines to make things easy for skin therapists – no customizations. It is my opinion that everything should be tailored to each guest individually – never cookie-cutter.
So, in 2012, I had come to the end of my journey of working for and with others and began a new journey. After much prayer and a load of anxiety, I took a leap of faith and signed a lease for my own studio space. I’m still on that amazing journey, and the process is how The Lantern Skin Studio got its name.
After signing the lease, I needed a name for my business. I knew two things: 1) I didn’t want a cliché or typical “spa” or salon type name, and 2) I wanted the name to represent the spirit of my business. For those who would eventually visit my studio with deep self-consciousness due to skin complications like acne or rosacea, I wanted them to feel less burdened after they visited me – more hopeful, and more confident. For those with less severe issues, I wanted them to feel appreciated, valued and welcomed. The Lantern Skin Studio got its name because along our journeys – we all need a little light on the path. My guests are that to me each day, and my hope is to always be that for them as well.
Since 2012, The Lantern Skin Studio has grown into a successful, blossoming, private practice skin care business – complete with the most amazing guests I could have ever asked for. I’m blessed beyond measure to spend my working hours with these kind, often zany, beautiful and loving guests I call mine. Sometimes, I still can’t believe it’s real! I LOVE what I do – not because I’m so special but because my people are.
If you are looking for more than a monthly membership facial - more than a day spa - more than just being another face... If you want an esthetician who will not only fade those spots or reduce your pimples - but will also likely come to know the names of your kids, your dog, your cat - and where you vacationed last year - I'm your girl, and I can’t wait to have you in.
